Lump Sum Payments

Lorelei:  Daddy, I think the tooth fairy should just pay me for all of my teeth now.

David:  Oh yeah?

Lorelei:  Yes.  And I think you might be the tooth fairy so you can just pay me.

New Quilt

I finally finished this baby quilt for a neighbor last night.  Today it came out of the dryer and Eli snatched it up immediately.

It’s so cute how excited he gets by quilts.  Every time I try to lay a new one out to baste or photograph he lays down on top of it.  You can see more pictures of this quilt here.

She’s getting good.

If it wasn’t for that whole labor/birth thing I might wonder whether or not Lorelei was really my daughter.  She manages to run AND kick the ball and hardly ever trips over her own feet.  She obviously doesn’t get that from me.  It must be David’s coordination shining through.  She had her soccer game tonight (she’s on the orange team this season) and they did wonderfully.  It was the first game that they lost (a nice change from last season) but they still did better than ever.  The kids are actually trying to pass to each other and make an effort to block other players when the other team has control of the ball.  Fun game tonight and not so hot…always a good thing.

Lorelei is sewing!

Lorelei did her first sewing project today!  You can read about it and see pictures here.

Smarter Every Day

What Eli had learned to do this week:

*Blow Kisses

*High-Five

*Pat his mouth while making “ahhhhh” sound

*Get off of the couch

*Go down the stairs (he faces forward, holds the banister, and scoots down on his butt)

*Says “cat”

*Open the baby gate (we’re less than thrilled about this one)

Quick Pincushions

A few hours ago I finally pulled out the kit for a black and white pincushion that I purchased weeks ago.  I got it at Broadbent’s in Lehi, Utah.  The original pattern is from American Patchwork & Quilting, December 2007.  They were originally supposed to be a set of three poinsettia pincushions.  I like them stacked better.  The colors are a bit off in the picture.  The green is really more of a lime.  I made that pincushion using leftover fabric from a baby quilt I made.  Anyway, at least I got an hour of sewing in tonight.  That’s better than I have done all week.

Gentlemen, please start your engines.

Tomorrow July officially begins.  I know, you’re thinking “Jandi, it will be July 6th.  You’re almost a week behind.”  And to that, I scoff.  Our July begins tomorrow it its amazing full-throttle glory.  Tennis, soccer, and tutoring.  All at least twice a week.  Play-dates galore.  And let us not forget the daily exercise class I signed myself up for. (I should have my head checked.)  Oh yea, little David will be here in two weeks (woot!).  And what is this?  Three quilts to do?  At least they’re baby quilts….I am apparently not the only person I know who has been “getting busy”.  HA!

Crazy Week

It seems like we’ve had something going on all day, every day.  It’s been a fun week but we are all exhausted.  Lorelei had her first week of tennis camp at Ivory Ridge.  It is really cute.  Their children’s program is very well run.  They have a lot of special equipment for the kids (including penguins set up on the opposite side of the net for the kids to aim at) and the ratio is only 4:1.  You can’t beat that.  David and I (with the help of my brother Marc) have been working on a few home improvements that we can only hope will be completed some time in the near future.  Tonight I realized that I need to make a quilt for a baby shower next Saturday.  Best get a cuttin’.

Costa Vida

The excitement shown by my friends and family over the new Costa Vida had me a bit perplexed.  Wasn’t this just yet another Mexican grill?  There are at least three other grills in a four block radius, including one directly across the street.  What is the fascination with burritos around here?  Because of this attitude, I had never bothered to try Costa Vida until it opened recently in American Fork  (599 W Main St, American Fork, UT 84003) .

I’m a chicken fan who is always disappointed in restaurant fare so I went ahead and ordered the Sweet Pork Tacos.  Unlike most grills, they put the tortillas back on the grill to make them a bit crispier.  And while I’m on the tortillas, these have got to be my favorite.  I don’t know if it is the dough itself, or actually seeing them pressed from a ball to flat tortilla, or perhaps a secret grilling temperature.  Whatever it is, I would go in just for the tortillas.  Back to the tacos:  excellent sweet pork, great rice, and I am a bit undecided on the beans.  Black beans and pinto beans are offered but no refried ones.  I miss the refried, but Eli loves the pinto beans and can easily pick them up.  Costa Vida does offer a reward card and in addition to that check out the top of your reciept.  Take a short survey online or by phone and get a free dessert.  Use your coupon for the Tres Leche.  It is a milky cake with whipped cream and strawberries.  The kids and I split one and it was plenty for all three of us.  The service at Costa Vida is also really good.  The staff is very friendly and vacated tables are quickly cleaned for new customers.  We’ve been eating there quite a bit, and you should to.

Busy Bees Are We

After an hour of sleep (me) we got up at 7am and started getting ready for the day.  It was Lorelei’s first day of soccer camp.  It’s wonderful!  Not too many kids, so they get lots of personal attention.  She loved it and can’t wait to go back tomorrow.  She has already told me what she plans to wear.  Ha!  Then we went to the store.  Then on over to the post office (I really should have mailed those cards on Monday).  We met Grandpa and Grandma for lunch.  Sweet pork tacos!  YUM!  Afterwards, we went to the library where I ran into a friend from Lehi High School.  Craziness!  And now I’m hoping Eli is taking a turbo nap so that we can go run an errand in an hour.  Poor baby is exhausted.

Tomorrow:  soccer camp and then watching television the rest of the day!
